Turkey is a real fusion of east and west,
and of old and new. Ancient ruins sit just a
few kilometres from contemporary hotels,
Ottoman mosques stand next to Roman
forts, and modern shopping malls spring
up next to traditional bazaars.
Beaches are big business here, with
stretches of sand and shingle edging the
coastline – head away from the coast and
you can discover hillside hamlets and
shady pine forests. You’ll find plenty in
the way of history too, from Lycian tombs
carved into cliff faces to the huge theatre
in the ancient city of Termessos.
